n an increasingly competitive

market, watch brands are relying

more and more on partnerships

with organisations operating

outside of the horological sphere

to maximise exposure and attract

new buyers. For sports watch makers,

automotive tie-ins have proved to be

highly successful, on the basis that

people who love interesting cars tend

to be drawn to luxury watches, too.

But, as the number of exclusive car

marques without a partner diminishes,

so watch brands are looking further

a eld, and the watches pictured here

have links to companies in diverse

 elds, including motorcycle building,

aircraft development, polo boot

manufacturing and guitar making…

TUDOR FASTRIDER

AND DUCATI

This year's big news from Italian

motorcycle maker Ducati revolves

around the launch of its Scrambler

model, a new 'urban' machine

available in four versions, all of which

can be customised with a range of

bolt-on accessories to suit the rider's

lifestyle. To complement the bikes,

Tudor, Ducati's o€ cial watch partner,

has launched some special versions

of its FastRider chronograph with

dials based on some of the

Scrambler's paint colours

- so you can choose

from yellow, red, or

olive green matt

 nishes. The

BAUME

MERCIER

AND SHELBY AMERICAN

Baume ‡ Mercier has teamed up

with the legendary American tuning

house Shelby American - maker

of the famous Shelby Cobra sports

car of the 1960s - to produce two

limited edition Capeland Shelby Cobra

chronographs designed to celebrate

50 years since the Cobra became the

 rst (and still the only) American car

to win the World Manufacturer's GT

Championship. Cobra-inspired styling

cues include 'snake's head' second

hands, subtly striped dials and sapphire

backs carrying founder Carroll Shelby's

signature. The steel edition is limited to

1,965 standard chronographs at £3,000

apiece, and there are 98 gold watches

featuring a '™ yback' movement, which
