As the world's ultimate luxury
single malt whisky, The Macallan
doesn't go in for convention.
A range of whiskies based on
colour, not age? Sounds good. An
innovative culinary collaboration
with the world's nest restaurant? You bet.
The ground-breaking Macallan 1824 Series
conveys the very essence of what makes
this Speyside single malt whisky special: oak
sherry casks and natural colour. In creating
these four whiskies, The Macallan whisky
maker Bob Dalgarno has eschewed tradition,
shaping each malt's distinctive character
according to the natural colour which
gradually evolves during years of maturation
in dierent oak casks.
The colour code of the four expressions
in the range - Gold, Amber, Sienna and
Ruby - reects the avour journey of
the casks chosen by Dalgarno for the
range: moving from lighter, lemon
citrus avours to darker avours of
dried fruits and spices. And, as the
whiskies become darker and richer,
the range of hand-selected casks
capable of delivering this character
becomes smaller and rarer.
Dalgarno explains that The Macallan
world of colour is the true inspiration for
the 1824 Series. He adds: 'The key thought in
this range is that a great single malt doesn't
need to be determined by age.'
Simply the best
Great single malts and cuisine, meanwhile,
are old friends - but a new partnership
between The Macallan and the world's
best restaurant promises to take this
relationship to new heights and explore
bold new horizons.
The Macallan Masters of Taste is a
unique culinary collaboration with El
Celler de Can Roca, the Catalan family
restaurant run by brothers Joan, Josep
and Jordi Roca, which was named the
nest restaurant in the world, in April
2013.* As with The Macallan, the success
of the Roca brothers is based on a
philosophy that nurtures an evolutionary
and modern approach, underpinned
by traditional family values.
'Whisky and cuisine have a long-standing
connection, but never have any two partners
come together to really explore what
this could, and should, mean,' comments
Ken Grier, director of The Macallan. 'Our
collaboration is set to break down classic
perceptions of food pairing and enter into
a whole new, awe-inspiring world of taste
and avour experience.'
Feast for the senses
The Masters of Taste adventure begins with
The Ultimate Dinner with The Macallan and
Roca - a charity event which will be held
at El Celler de Can Roca and which is open
to a lucky few diners at a cost of £6,000
a head. This dinner represents the most
