OVER TO YOU
FOXLOW BALHAM
If you're after a bustling London neighbourhood restaurant,
the Foxlow family is a good bet: we're fans of every one of these
quality, cut-price Hawksmoors. Newcomer Foxlow Balham is
garnering plaudits, with Timothy P praising its "properly cooked"
and "well-sized" selection of steaks. Meanwhile Tammy K has
practically moved in: " e staff here really make the place feel like
home." Defi nitely a chain whose spread we can get behind.
IN ASSOCIATION WITH
COUNTER VAUXHALL ARCHES VAUXHALL
With the arrival of Damien Hirst and Mark Hix's mashup
Pharmacy 2, plus a brand-new chef at Brunswick House in the
shape of Jackson Boxer, Vauxhall's food scene is fi nally getting
serious. Counter is rising to the challenge, with Alex C dubbing
the "glamorous" brasserie "a real treat" and praising the curious and
gem-fi lled wine list, while Andre A is addicted. "I spend too much
time in here. It's fantastic for breakfast meetings and after-work
drinks." As it's just down the road from Squaremeal HQ , we'd
expect nothing less, darling.
CORBIN & KING GROUP VARIOUS
Corbin & King restaurants continue to generate lots of
commentary. Tim H reports that food at e Delaunay is as
good as ever but the service is "pretty slow", while breakfast at
Fischer's in Marylebone
is "not as good as before"
says Joanna G, who thinks
"they need to up their
game". Soho's Brasserie
Zédel, however, gets top
marks from Vilma A: "I
cannot fault anything!"
We've heard good things
about group newcomer
Bellanger in Islington (and
rate it highly), so we'd still
mark C&K down as a safe
bet for refi ned dining.
M GRILL VICTORIA
Wondering what the M stands for? at'll be founder Martin
Williams, who used to manage Gaucho. His second M Grill
opened in Victoria in December and, if Rona H found the prices
"eyewatering", Eric F particularly loved the "red prawns and Wagyu".
More M Restaurants are in the works - keep an eye on Mayfair.
GAUCHO VARIOUS
Argentinian steak group Gaucho is still getting your juices fl owing.
Philippa C enjoyed the "exceptional food" at the Piccadilly
fl agship, ditto Rona H at Chelsea who devoured the ribeye
marinated in chimichurri. For Tracey L, the Broadgate basement
branch is "one of the best places to get good steak in the City".
