rst Champagne designed to
be used in cocktails. O -dry
in style, it's perfect to drink
with a slice of orange, mint or
lemon, and served in a large
wine glass to accentuate the
aromas. Pictured right is the
Lanson White Label Mad
Hatter, made with gin, lemon
juice, ginger beer, apple juice
and elder ower cordial,
which is available at London
Cocktail Club. Lanson says gin
is the ideal partner for White
Label, complementing the
spirit's citrus and oral notes.

Stunner of '69
Speyside distillery The
Glenrothes has unveiled a
new 1969 bottling from its
Extraordinary Cask Collection.
Despite the whisky's age, the
oak doesn't dominate, with a
burst of spicy, sweet fruit on
the palate, and a silky texture.
Add a drop of water and
citrus notes come through.
If you want a bottle, though,
don't delay - the cask only
yielded 133 of them…
£4,000/70cl;
Berry Bros & Rudd
Latin refreshment
Pisco isn't the best-known spirit in the world,
but if you like your cocktails on the refreshing
side, then a Pisco sour (made with lime juice,
sugar syrup and egg white) is ideal. This
Chilean version from Kappa is made from
Muscat grapes, and is softer and more
delicate than most. With aromas of
orange blossom and wild flowers,
it elevates and refines the Pisco sour,
but keeps the zesty character intact.
Or, if you have a large group to cater
for, it's perfect in a Pisco punch -
mix with pineapple, orange and
lemon juices, add a dash of sugar
syrup, and top up with Champagne
- perfect for warm spring days.

Fancy a brew?
Our thirst for craft beer continues,
and Lincolnshire brewery
Batemans has launched four
'Bohemian Brews' comprising
Orange Barley, Hazelnut
Brownie, Mocha, and Mocha
Amaretto. To our surprise, all
four were quite restrained on
the palate, with Mocha getting
the most plaudits. Infused
with Arabica coffee beans and
Belgian chocolate, it delivered
rich, concentrated flavours,
with roasted coffee notes -
not unlike a good stout.
£19.20/case of 8x33cl;

THE LIGHT FANTASTIC
Freya is the new expression from Orkney whisky distillery
Highland Park, the latest in its Valhalla Collection.
Meaning 'The Golden One', Freya is lighter than most
Highland Park whiskies, with tropical fruit and creaminess
on the nose, and toasty oak, orchard fruits and subtle
peatiness on the palate. £140/70cl; The Whisky Exchange
