Cool cats, India
Leopards are the Lord Lucan of the big cat
community: rarely seen, only ever in distant,
exotic corners of the world, and prone to
vanishing in the blink of an eye. The newly
erected Jawai Leopard Camp in Rajasthan
promises as good a chance as
anywhere of spotting the elusive beasts.
Guests rise before dawn for 4x4 safaris of the
scrubby hills and amingo-dotted wetlands
nearby, with seasoned trackers helping sni
out the cats. Even if you don't spot them,
you probably won't leave disappointed.
Palatial tents come with hurricane lamps
and modernist furnishings, and photos of
fearsome-looking felines adorn the walls.
