any di erent elements go
into the making of a great
single malt Scotch whisky,
from the shape and size of
the stills to the way they
are operated. But up to
70 per cent of the character and avour of
a mature whisky comes not from the spirit
itself, but directly from the oak cask in which
it has been aged.
This is the philosophy that underpins The
Macallan Rare Cask, the whisky that forms
a gateway to The Macallan 1824 Masters
Series of luxury single malt expressions,
which includes Re exion, No. 6 and M. With
their natural colour and increasing layers of
complexity and rich hues, these ne whiskies
encapsulate The Macallan's mastery of the
craft of sherry oak maturation.
Rare Cask is the most diverse and intricate
Macallan whisky, the pro le of which is
achieved through the widest possible palette
of cask styles. Less than 1 per cent of the
casks maturing at The Macallan distillery are
a rareMatured in rst- ll sherry
casks, The Macallan Rare
Cask is a single malt that
deemed t to bear the Rare Cask name.
This is a single malt whisky crafted from
no fewer than 16 di erent cask styles -
mainly rst- ll American and Spanish oak,
including butts, hogsheads and puncheons.
In a process that The Macallan controls from
acorn to glass, these casks have been made
by a number of manufacturers and seasoned
by multiple sherry bodegas to the distillery's
exacting speci cations.
The Macallan Rare Cask is truly a one-o :
some of the casks employed in its creation
will never be used again as they come
from cooperages and sherry bodegas that
no longer exist. This rigorous and artisanal
process results in a spirit bottled at the peak
of its maturity, not simply when it reaches a
particular age. Smooth, rich and avoursome,
The Macallan Rare Cask is a whisky o ering a
luxurious and indulgent sensory experience.
It is quite simply the ultimate expression
of the distiller's art, whether you prefer to
savour it neat, with a splash of water, or
accompanied by a Macallan ice ball.
