MMM, BEERWe've said it before, and we'll say it again: beer
is great with food. And now it seems chefs are
great with brewers too, as Michelin-starred Tom
Kitchin has proved with the release of his very
own beer in collaboration with the Isle of Skye
Brewing Co. Called Yer Ben, the 5.5% abv ale is
named after Kitchin's grandfather, Ben Robinson.
"My grandfather really inspired me to carefully
consider the quality and condition of beer, so I've
always worked hard to seek out the very, very
best," he explained.
Working together with brewers Pam
MacRuary and Mags Newlands, who are both
former chefs themselves, Kitchin created the beer
to be enjoyed with food. And it certainly sounds
versatile, being a soft, easy-drinking beer with
flavours of Shredded Wheat and malt biscuits
before a gentle hoppiness rounds things off.
Visitors to Kitchin's gastropub, The Scran & Scallie,
will be able to sup it to their heart's content, but
for those unable to make it to Edinburgh anytime
soon, the beer is also available online.
